Review on Efficient Replacement Soldering Iron Kit: ETS KN ACE by Adam Nikolz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good variety - good heat distribution

First of all: I'm primarily a hobbyist. I'm sure a professional has a drawer full of soldering tips for all occasions. And I'm sure there are many companies out there that would be happy to sell you an extreme platinum limited edition with diamonds and nano-coating for the price of a new car. So I can only speak of my admittedly narrow needs. I've been very bad at maintaining my soldering iron over the years. The reason I bought the Weller in the first place was tight temperature control and an overall better end product. And then I decided to go with the OEM tip. for years. I recently needed a thin tip for some precision fasteners. So I had a new idea and figured I'd just buy a set and start using the right tips for the right job. Insanity! Right? It arrived and I unscrewed a 0.2mm curved conical tip for the one job I needed it for. My biggest surprise was that I had to turn the temperature up a bit to get a flow. But then I realized that the laws of physics still apply and that more heat is needed due to the smaller surface area. I seasoned the spike, fed it through the crushed copper, and got to work. The solder flowed, the electrons connected and there was a lot of joy. And for the sake of a smile, I decided to try something I've never been able to successfully do. I tried to manually solder the ESP32 microcontroller to the breadboard. And after 20 minutes, hunched over from the mat, I closed my eyes, prayed to the USB gods and plugged everything in. And it worked. I know! I'm just as surprised as you! It's entirely possible that each new subtle tip would allow me to make things work. Maybe this kit is awful and any *true* pro would rather solder with a magnifying glass and the sun than even look at it. But for the past few days, I've put most of them through my painful amateur workflow, and everything is still cool and crazy. So for my modest needs they are perfect. The 0.2mm and 0.6mm cones and 4.6mm blade proved to be the most useful of all (at least for me). In general I am satisfied. Although I definitely should have picked something like this when I bought my first iron. live and learn My module is Weller WESD51
