Nearly perfect for travel play

I was looking for a really portable travel set but all I found were cheap wooden ones that got very mixed reviews. I saw a video about this set on YouTube and decided to give it a try. I think it's "almost" the perfect travel set. It's big and in my opinion the magnetism is perfect. Yes, you can't tilt it at a serious angle, but you don't have to worry about the pieces moving if you collide or need to move with the board. I like the more updated version with a squarer chessboard. The notation is really nice to have. The pieces were surprisingly of very good quality, especially the dark ones. At first glance it definitely looks like a wooden set and doesn't look cheaply made. My only gripe (and the reason I'm degrading a star) is that it does NOT include any extra queens. As they are often required in games, this was a real disappointment. Also, it doesn't look like you can buy them as an option. So I would have to buy an extra set to get two extra queens. They really should make it possible to buy these items. But I'll tell you what, I love this set so much and it's so cheap I might just buy another set to get them. Bottom Line: Despite the lack of extra queens, I still highly recommend this set for travel. use and think it's the best buy in this price range or even anywhere near it.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Questionable buy for seniors
