Doesn't heat to 425 degrees

I was glad to finally upgrade my old (original) George Foreman grill. It was advertised as non-smoking and had a large BBQ area. I read a review of an item not heating up properly, but I've read others that didn't. So, as with any article, roll the dice and hopefully end up writing a good review. Well I am now writing a bad review for the very reason the other person complained. The elements do not heat up to the specified temperature of 425 degrees. The grill is very well made, great removable grill plate with old non-stick coating. The grease drip tray can be easily removed and placed at the bottom for a clean counter without drips! The smoke free claim is hard to measure, I believe it reduces smoke by up to 88% compared to previous versions. It still smokes when cooking. The video they show doesn't exactly match what happened while preparing two hamburger patties. My smoke came mostly from the back and a bit on the sides, along with splatters of fat. A very simple operation. If you just want to fry a hamburger, press the power button as it's set to a maximum temperature of 425. The beautiful red light above the lid flashes slowly until it reaches temperature, after which the red light turns green (see ) . I repeat: if you see green, you should have reached the desired temperature. The temperature was the biggest problem. My old foreman, the cake is ready, 5 minutes, the cake is obviously ready. On this new model the patty stays on for 5 minutes without stopping the cooking process, when I lifted the lid the patty didn't look fully cooked. I stuck the tine of a fork into the patty and blood juice came out, indicating it wasn't fully cooked. So I went and grabbed my thermometer. See photos. I cleaned my plates completely, turned them back on and reheated them to 425. Once the green indicator showed the temperature was up, I waited another 5 minutes before lifting the lid to check the temperature. I immediately checked the temperature when I lifted the lid. As you can see from the photos, the top cover only registers 364 degrees while the bottom cover only registers 360 degrees. The bottom grille was even lower in most areas, rather than across the entire grille. I checked all temperature settings in 25 degree increments. The temperature is measured most accurately from 350 degrees and below. I say mainly because none of them were below the advertised temp, but most were about 10 degrees above the advertised temp. to restart the heating elements. It took 8 minutes for the lid to open before the display registered heat loss and turned red to reheat. For comparison, I pulled out my trusty old grill and fired it up. In fact, he registered 520 degrees. I sent a new one back for a refund. Overall the grill is really good and I wish companies had better quality assurance. George Foreman is a big name and these products should live up to his legacy.
