Review on 🍲 Sistema Red Microwave Soup Mug - Convenient 22.1 Oz Container by Jonathan Abreu

Plastic microwave containers work well if you keep the following in mind:

I have bought about a dozen "System" microwave containers and use them regularly with no problems. I've noticed a number of very negative reviews of these products; even from a native New Zealand company. Most of them concern: 1. non-tight (fill with soup or other liquids and carry in lunch bags where they will leak) 2. deform or bubble when used in the microwave. If you consider these products, there are some features. I think you should consider: 1. Sistema microwave containers (mostly red plastic) are NOT airtight. They are intended for heating with the lids closed. If they were airtight, the vapor pressure would cause them to explode. I believe there are pyrex airtight containers available that are suitable for microwave use, but the instructions for them say the lids are to be removed when heating. 2. In my opinion, plastic microwave containers are good for reheating water-based food, steaming or cooking. I don't consider them dishes. If you look at the bottom, the containers are microwaveable up to 240 degrees Fahrenheit (storage containers are rated for 212 degrees Fahrenheit). To me that means they are primarily designed for steaming and heating water up to the boiling point. Tupperware has some guidelines for microwave cooking that say not to heat food that contains OIL or SUGAR. Both butter and sugar easily exceed 300 degrees Fahrenheit. I believe that people who melt their plastic containers are trying to heat foods that are high in oil and/or sugar and not enough water to exceed the plastic's melting point.
