A fair warning to people who think they are smart and capable with tech and might be a bit concerned after reading how difficult it is to learn how to use this device are. I'm not afraid to own any tech tool, but after three weeks of use I gave up and returned it. Here are some of the problems you will encounter: There are no real instructions on how to set it up and use it. It comes with a small multi-page booklet detailing the various programming features, but it doesn't tell you how to get the device working according to your needs in your region. guide you through the basic functions of the device and its setup. There are videos that can show you some of the features of this particular device and plenty of videos showing how to work with other scanners (which are definitely different) but there is nothing to guide you through the starter kit yet. Set up and program this radio for use in your region. -- If you are serious about using the device and want to program it yourself, you will most likely not have any success unless you subscribe to a site like RadioReference.com, which actually has a much better version of device manuals and web FAQ forums can help you answer your questions. There you will find at least the frequencies you need to program the radio for use in your area and the people running the site are very friendly. But. -- You still need to download and learn how to use a not-so-intuitive software application called FreeSCAN, which collects some frequencies that you will probably need to program your device and transfer frequencies to your new radio. It's confusing, but there are some good YouTube videos to walk you through the process. Going this far will program your new device with the correct frequencies and leave you confused as hell trying to actually use the insane amount of features and function menus in a small mobile device. You will have some basic questions e.g. B. what is squelch and how should i operate it so i can understand what is coming on the radio and some more advanced questions how do i program the quick menu buttons to either stay on the same frequency or go back to the frequency i used five minutes ago heard. And unless you have an experienced person to help you learn all of this, you will be disappointed with how far you've gotten with this radio, and you still can't hear calls from the local police, fire department, or ambulance on a regular basis. I strongly recommend that if you are considering purchasing this device and learning how to use it, then find an experienced radio amateur in your area to help program the device and provide you with personal training. When you have it and you are ready looking at it as a project and hobby that requires certain skills you may succeed and I wish you the best of luck. As for me, I've come to the conclusion that using a digital scanner radio in a backbone system is no longer a hobby for those who like to casually listen. With all due respect to serious radio amateurs, this device is not for me. Much luck!
