Review on πŸ“€ Panasonic DMP-BD75 High-Speed Start Blu-ray Disc Player by Eric Weber

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Treat it like a regular Blu-ray player

Bought from Revain for less than Benjamin. I've been using this for over 2 months now, mainly for playing Blu-ray and standard DVDs. So far I haven't had a single problem playing a disc. During that time I have also rented over 20 different discs from local kiosks (rent $1.50 per day). Some of the rental discs were quite scratched but there were no problems. Since this drive can play some of the latest Blu-Ray discs released, I haven't bothered to update the firmware. I connect it to an Onkyo RC360 via HDMI and Onkyo streams video to my Sony 46V2500 (also via HDMI). The Onkyo receiver was able to extract the latest Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD-MA mix from the Panasonic drive, so I know they all seem to play well together. After reading reviews from other reviewers about how unreliable internet streaming and other features are, I figured I'd just delegate this player as a DVD/Blu-Ray only drive. If I need internet streaming, I can always buy a Roku or an AppleTV. For the price, it's hard for me to find a better player. Since this drive does NOT have coaxial or optical audio, I strongly recommend going with more modern hardware (if all hardware has HDMI at its best) to get a high-resolution audio track. That's a noticeable difference. Picture quality is ok (even for Blu-Ray) but I've seen better (PS3 picture quality is better IMO). After all, if you adjust your expectations and try to see this as an entry-level Blu-ray player first, I think it's a steal.

Pros
  • It's compatible with Netflix, CinemaNow, Vudu
Cons
  • Not sure
