Looks like factory setting.
I don't know why people make tape. I've always been lucky with 3M. I first use a wipe to clean the area and then wipe down with alcohol. With this scoop I put a quart jar of oil on it while it dries in the sun for 2 hours. I filled the small gaps with black silicone. I primed, painted and applied about four coats of clear coat. Default settings.
