I use this grinder for whole spices. As another reviewer pointed out, some of what you grind comes out as you use the grinder. I've been grinding spices for curry powder and it's a mess. Tons of spices flew over my counter under the lid. The lid seems to have more room than usual so there is no tight fit between the lid and the grinder area. I wouldn't use it for coffee. It's easy to use (almost dropping things, putting the lid on and squeezing), but the trade-off is the mess it makes. As I often use it for spices, which is sporadic, I've decided to keep it, but I won't be using it for something I'll grind every day, like coffee.
