Our 2009 Focus had swollen mounting nuts. I had never heard of this problem before. The original Ford nuts turned out to be regular chrome sheet metal nuts. Apparently the nut underneath is starting to rust. They then swell and push the sheet metal out to the point where a regular socket wrench will not fit. This is a much better solution. I had another problem with plated nuts on my trailer. The sheet metal covers simply rotated while the lug nuts themselves stayed in place. These durable nuts solve both problems.
