Review on Flexcut Slipstrop Polishing Deburring PW12 by Jeremy Gorsage

OK, but it could be better.

First of all, it does what it was designed to do. It can be used even by a beginner to sharpen curved instruments (for final polishing). The polish included in the kit seems to work well and the amount included should last a while. Now for the less desirable features. The wood in the packaging looks like a purple heart, but it's not. This is a very soft white wood with a light purple stain. Any use of the kerf will dent/bruise the wood, and any "misses" in honing the inside of the curved kerf will easily cut into the wood. It wouldn't matter if the separate leather pads (removable) were removable and could be placed in/onto one of the grooves or just cover everything. As a tanner, I understand that it would be a challenge to conform the leather to all the curves and angles (which could be solved by sheathing the leather, pressing it against the craft or craftsman while it dries, and then gluing it on). on), but this is a noticeable disadvantage of this design. In general, I really like this tool. But when it comes time to replace it, I'll probably make mine out of stronger wood and wrap all the profiles in leather.
