Lavazza coffee is usually fabulous, fresh and delicious. I really wanted to try their whole beans and the price was great so I ordered. It arrived today with an expiry date of 2/2021. Before opening, the smell wasn't very pleasant, it didn't smell like any of their ground varieties and appeared stale. As soon as I opened it and inhaled, my nostrils filled with an aroma reminiscent of coffee my great-grandmother had forgotten from the 1920s. Reluctantly and with a shrug, I cooked it, hoping to be surprised by its taste. SURPRISE, it tastes like coffee was roasted in the 20's, prepared in the summer of '69 and stored in the fridge until 9/3/2019, warmed up and served today! It looks like the coffee was stored in less than ideal conditions before it got to me. Aside from being nauseous and inedible, that's a lot! ☕️
