UPDATE: Some corrections needed to be made to my original review. I was a long way from saying this is 2/3 the height of a sheet of printer paper. The piece of paper in the portrait sticks out maybe 2 inches from the top, which is still not perfect, but not as bad as saying it's 2/3 the height. I wrote an initial review based on a few days of use and I lost my memory. But as soon as he stood in front of me, I realized I had made a terrible assessment. Second, I installed it on a sturdier/flatter table and the drawer works fine. No grinding and no sticking when pushed back. This pretty much negates the only issues I had with the item, so I've upgraded it from 4 to 5 stars. --------- Original update: This is less than I expected. I'll probably upgrade to something more in a few months as I get more experience. My hand movements seem really constrained on this subject, especially when I'm getting close to the bottom of the canvas and the holder is in the way of the pencil, whether I fold it up or down. be able to use landscape-only paper if the paper isn't in your sketchbook or has some other solid support. I'm new to drawing so I'm practicing lines and shapes on printer paper and THIS isn't big enough, to use the paper in a portrait. I'm sure I would have known that if I had read the measurements first, so I don't blame the seller, just letting people know: the actual artboard (in a portrait) is about 2/3 the size of the piece . paper for printers. In the landscape, there's maybe an inch of extra space on each side. The construction is also quite cheap. Not bad cheap as it looks like it's about to fall apart, it just feels like a commodity. The drawer, for example, is very tight when you slide it in and out because it's just sanding wood on wood. And when you close the lid, it tends to droop, which takes a lot of effort. Obviously we're not expecting $40 metal pushers and call bearings, but again, just let them know! I thought I saw an option earlier for a larger size that gives you about 6 inches of extra horizontal space and a few more for vertical space. and it was only a few dollars more (can't find it now). I would have bought this if I had seen it beforehand and if you had decided to buy this one I would have spent a few bucks more. All in all, for a beginner or just wanting something quick and portable to have on hand, this does the job! Everything folds up nicely so you can store it on your desk without taking up a lot of space, and it doesn't look terrible. I have the feeling, that it shouldn't be anything long-term or beyond the beginner/travel stages. If you are looking for something longer term to grow into I would look elsewhere. But if you need something fast and portable to get you started and you're ready to grow out of it in a month or two, I see no reason why this shouldn't work for you! Doesn't look like it should be a long-term affair though, or go beyond the beginner/travel phase. If you are looking for something longer term to grow into I would look elsewhere.
