Review on 🚲 Panaracer Tour Guard Plus Tire: Reliable Wire Bead Protection for Enhanced Performance by Shane Jenkins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good tires with decent safety features

I've only used them once on my bike but here are my first observations: They (I bought a pair) came in a sturdy box. as many others have reported. They were perfectly round and the stiff wire bead made them easy to install. I always put some soapy water on the last ball and they snap right in. I was a little disappointed to see that they are made in China even though the Panaracer website says they are made in Japan. . It doesn't matter - I used to ride Chinese tires. Because of the extra layer of rubber under the tread, they are significantly heavier than the same size Bontrager tires they replaced. I don't think I could flatten her if I tried! Despite the extra weight, the bike feels a little quicker, likely due to the slightly smaller footprint and stiffer compound. On my normal route (6 miles, about half pavement and half concrete), my old tires always picked up a cinder or two from the pavement surface. The tread pattern on them is slightly wider so they don't collect small chips. I like the reflective strip idea. My wife and I often drive early in the morning and the extra visibility will be nice.

Pros
  • Black urban/commuter tread
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
