Being butane, the flashlight works great in any position, even upside down. This is one of the best flashlights I've ever owned. Many uses and the lighting mechanism is very consistent. Excellent Dremel quality. Now for the modification: If you don't have any children/grandchildren, there is a way to remove the child protection mechanism. At the bottom of the plastic case, unscrew the 2 Torx T8 screws. Using a thin jeweler's screwdriver, remove the small screw next to the blue knob. Carefully open the plastic piece next to the button and gently remove the child lock. Replacing 3 screws gives you a regular unsafe flashlight. All other functions work perfectly.
