I have a size 9 in the Akira hiking sandals. I found them to run large so consider ordering a size smaller. I like hiking sandals, but the islander is back. I found that my foot was not aligned with the Islander's insole, causing my pinky toes to land on or over the edge of the sandal. Also, the islanders' harnesses are lighter than the hikers' and probably not as strong. Also, the islanders don't have pads on the harness clips, so they can interfere with walking. I think if you really want athletic sandals, first step shoes are the best. I've carried mine on my bike dozens of times and taken a few short hikes. They are more comfortable than my Merrel hiking boots and have survived multiple dives in the Cape Fear River with no problems. Follow the strays, not the islanders.
