This is hands down the BEST meat thermometer. I have no idea. I've tried others and ended up with disasters on my dinner table. Since I bought this thermometer, cooking roasts has never been so easy! And - I cook all roasts (pork, beef, etc.) on an outdoor gas grill with amazing results. Hm. Then why did I order a second one? Well, I got into a cleaning frenzy and decided I needed to clean up any greasy splatter that was building up on the thermometer. I took a soap steel pad (Brillo) in front where all the marks are and in one motion - BAM. All these marks have practically disappeared. I love this thermometer because it's incredibly accurate, but I've learned my lesson: DO NOT clean it with abrasive cleaners or you'll have to order a replacement!
