Review on πŸ“Έ Enhance Macro Photography with Mcoplus 14extc Macro Ring Flash for Canon, Black by Brandon Kraemer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent but inexpensive ring flash expands the possibilities of macro photography

I've had this flash for about a month now and I'm very happy with it. I wasn't sure if I really needed a macro flash so I wouldn't spend 5x more for the Canon version but at this price point I didn't mind trying. I would recommend this device to anyone interested in macro photography. Of course it's still too early for me to judge the life of the flash bulb at just a month, but even if they only last a year I feel I got a better deal than a Canon flash. This is my first experience in macro photography. so I'm still learning along the way. I bought it and use it with the "Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens for Canon DSLR", they work well together. Contrary to many reviews on Amazon, connecting a macro flash to a lens was easy for me, maybe because of all the critical reviews, another adapter was recently added - I bought mine in December 2014. The macro flash comes with about 10 plastic adapters for connecting to different sized lenses, of which I only tried one. I installed a 67mm B+W UV filter on my macro lens (to protect the lens from damage) and one of the adapter rings fits the female lens UV filter thread so I don't have to take the UV Filter off and the lens itself cannot be damaged. Fits perfectly. The flash sits in a groove on the adapter and, as others have noted, rotates freely, which I don't like. I inserted a rubber band into the groove to prevent the flash from spinning, but the rubber band I had was too wide for the groove making it difficult to attach the flash now. With a rubber band of the right size, this should solve the problem. As I said, I'm just starting out with macro photography, but I love experimenting with flash. The tutorial is pretty basic, but if you've used any kind of Flash before, you'll find that Flash is easy to work with. ETTL metering with my Canon 6D works very well as a starting point, but I've found that I get better results with on-camera exposure compensation or by adjusting the flash output, depending on the background. Reducing the flash output can result in good shots when another light source is illuminating the subject, e.g. B. natural light from the side, and the macro flash is used as an additional fill light to bring out details without overwhelming the other light source. Using a flash greatly increases photographic possibilities, as you can achieve faster exposure times, allowing you to shoot in low light without a tripod, and/or get greater depth of field, as a larger aperture is possible.
