Review on πŸ’§ Culligan US 600A Advanced Drinking Water Filtration System by James Womble

Works well but wish it had threaded connections

I liked the idea of saving money spent on jug water filters. I bought this filter along with the Revain recommended Watts faucet as customers have complained about the other complete Culligan kit which uses a plastic faucet which breaks easily. This kit includes a D20 filter, a few feet of 3/8" hose, two 3/8" 90 quick connect elbows and screws for mounting in a cabinet. If you're planning on filtering all of the cold water out of your faucet, I recommend going to the hardware store to buy brass compression fittings for the 3/8" plastic hoses, and then going back after the filter. There seems to be too many people trying to get quick fittings to grab their copper pipe or tubing. I honestly didn't expect the quick release teeth to hold copper in high water pressure. The tiny prongs are designed to grip the plastic tubing and once connected it is almost impossible to remove without damaging it. If you want to add a separate drinking faucet, you'll need to go to a hardware store to buy a brass tee that fits your current pipe. walk to the filter and then to the drinking tap. Connect the old faucet to the top of the tee. This is easy if you have a newer faucet with threaded nuts. Look for what's called an adapt-a-tee, which is a tee with a swivel nut on one end and male threads on the other two ports. I personally would prefer threaded connections on this filter. I really don't understand how customers can trust quick disconnects when real compression fittings are easy to use and you can just tighten them to stop leaks. I have no idea how long the seals in quick disconnects last, and once assembled they cannot be easily disassembled. Most people don't even know how far they have to go to fully seal. Since I have a completely separate line from the basement for my ice cream maker, I bought a second filter behind the refrigerator. I refuse to pay over $30 for a fridge filter that only lasts 6 months when these cheap kids live to 12 months! To make things easier, I first installed the filter under the sink, rinsed the D-20 filter element to remove all free carbon from it, and then put the washed D-20 cartridge back into the fridge filter. It would be nearly impossible to remove all of the free carbon with a water/ice system in a refrigerator. After that I installed a new D-30 element in the filter under the sink and flushed it out. The D-20 and D-30 cartridges made our water taste better, but I wanted extra filtration for the faucet and will be using the cheaper D-20 for ice making. The D-30 has slightly less water pressure compared to the D-20, but it's spot on with our water pressure.
