Inconsistent at best, unusable most of the time
At first I thought my aging MBP couldn't handle large photo files coupled with the lack of USB-C and thought it was time for a new laptop. Luckily my son came home for spring break so I could use his 2019 MBP. Shock shock, file access is a nightmare, once there, no problem, but otherwise forget it. I rebooted the system, tried a different cable and nothing, I ran Disk Utility - First Aid, it's been "Check Hierarchy" for over 20 minutes now. It looks like the hard drive is not responding at all.
