This cork is better than the one she replaced. highlighted.
After many years of use, the old cork/wicker has collapsed. The part you are pulling has come loose from the stopper that you had to pull out. I think this was because the cork was rubber which was too tight at the drain. This plug fits the drain snugly and is just the right size. The old cork depended on the cork being pushed in tightly and this caused separation.
