This is not exactly the same as Holmes filter. Comparing side-by-side, the Holmes has a lot more "zigzag accordion" pleats, which means that the Holmes has a much larger surface area of the filter through which air flows than this fake. The rest of the filter is fine. The activated carbon pre-filter is simply attached to the filter with sticky Velcro fasteners. After working for a few days, I noticed a decrease in background odor (although I bought a gel charcoal air freshener at the same time - a gonzo odor magnet).
