Review on OSD Audio PS10 Powered Subwoofer by Sally Wiesner

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Saves space but struggles with bass.

Pros: Sleek design fits anywhere. Perfect for my small bedroom - Inputs and controls are well placed, better than some other budget brands that make the same type of subwoofer - Perfectly complements a 5.1 surround sound system. It's not super powerful bass, but it offers decent weight and some low frequencies that it works really well with (I'd say in the 60-100Hz range). Cons: - Distortion at mid to high bass levels. Don't really think this is actually a 200w subwoofer. - Suffering from port chugging - that "spongy" sound you get when the subwoofer can't fully reproduce the low frequencies and it almost sounds like the woofer's cone is hitting the cabinet. Other thoughts: Why do you need an L/R (stereo) RCA input when the LFE channel is mono in surround sound? Sounds identical, just plug in half an RCA stereo cable. If you use it with a regular surround receiver, all you need is mono to mono. You don't have to pay too much for fancy RCA male to male cables. I have one but there is no sound improvement over a single RCA. Summary: A compact subwoofer that gets the job done in modest surround settings, but struggles with very low frequencies (50Hz and below) and mid to high output. . Be prepared to hear rattling and distortion when the bass gets too punchy in movies and music. But if you keep it busy and your room is small, it will do the job just fine.
