FTDI reliability on computer accessories and peripherals

This adapter worked fine with an industrial printer; We tried two different Prolific-based adapters that worked with other, simpler devices, but not with this particular printing hardware. I simply plugged in the adapter and installed the drivers that came with it, then pointed the printer software to the correct COM port. Activity ads are probably my favorite feature. In my case, the activity lights on the adapter blink regularly when the printer software is active, indicating TX/RX communication. Since I'm responsible for supporting these devices, an easy first step in troubleshooting is to determine if the hardware is interoperable.
