FTDI reliability on computer accessories and peripherals

This adapter worked fine with an industrial printer; We tried two different Prolific-based adapters that worked with other, simpler devices, but not with this particular printing hardware. I simply plugged in the adapter and installed the drivers that came with it, then pointed the printer software to the correct COM port. Activity ads are probably my favorite feature. In my case, the activity lights on the adapter blink regularly when the printer software is active, indicating TX/RXโ€ฆ

He communicates in both directions.

The company I work for is currently using XP as its operating system and will upgrade to Win 7 by the end of this year. After reading the reviews and knowing the application/hardware I will be using it with, I wanted a Win 7 compatible device. So this review is for XP and if I can switch my laptop to Win 7 I will update the review. Installing the drivers was very easy. Plug in the device and let the system detect it. Select the option to browse the location manually, browse to the CD, selectโ€ฆ

Works great with Windows 10, no problems with it so far.

Bought to replace my old PL2303 Prolific adapter. The old adapter still works great and was passed on to a colleague, but it's hard to get a real Prolific these days with all the cheap fakes that don't work. To avoid all this headache I decided to use this FTDI based adapter. As others have said, ignore the included CD and download the FTDI drivers instead. So far I haven't had any problems with drivers or hardware.

Great serial adapter!

This is one of those rare AMAZING serial adapters! First up is the FTDI chipset which is one of the (if not) the best and most compatible chipsets out there! The next big part are the TX/RX/Power LEDs! Sometimes it really helps to see if you're having trouble transmitting or receiving, and you can see when you have power and the TC/RX LEDs are blinking while you're sending data through them! (They are off by default and blink in the same way as your hard drive's LED when in use.) Mine shipsโ€ฆ

Great Serial to USB Adapter that works on Win 7 and Mac

I bought this Serial to USB Adapter after trying a few others like Cables to Go. Although their cables work, despite my best efforts I have not been able to connect them, even with the latest drivers on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Mac OS Lion. However, I'm happy to report that this article works perfectly on both Windows 7 64-bit and Mac OS Lion. I have successfully installed and tested it in both. Windows 7 doesn't require you to install any drivers as it will automatically detect andโ€ฆ

Capable FTDI based serial adapters

Those of us who develop embedded systems are probably all familiar with FTDI chips. They are supported on Mac, Linux and even Windows. When I had to order a USB/RS-232 cable I thought of looking for one that uses the FTDI family of chips as I already had the drivers on all my machines. A quick search here on Revain for "FTDI" led me to this product. I just got it but since no one has reviewed it yet I thought I'd go ahead and share my first impressions. As I had hoped, it was compatible withโ€ฆ

I need these to connect to my Rigblaster M8 digital interface and my Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark V ham radio transmitter to operate in digital modes such as PSK31, MFSK16, Field-Hell aka Hellschreiber and numerous other digital modes work. I've used the Prolific cables and drivers with Windows XP and Vista with no problems, but they didn't work with Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). My computer froze after a few seconds when launching MixW, Ham Radio Deluxe, or the Digital Master 780 built into Hamโ€ฆ
