I bought this product about a month ago and last week decided to test and set up the camera before installing it. The instructions say to install the latest firmware, which I did. What mistake! Thinking I locked the device, I read that the SD card needs to be formatted with Fat32 formatting. Almost all SD cards have large file formats that are not available in Windows 8.1 and later. You need to download the Fat32 formatter, then format the SD card to Fat32, then download the firmware update (use the default update) and unzip all the files (three). Now download the files (a bin and two JPGs) to your SD card. Make sure the camera is turned off and unplugged when you insert the SD card, and then plug it into a power source. Now wait for the device to download the firmware, go to the menu screen on boot up and reformat the SD card, then set up the camera. The guide only applies to videos and settings, not photos. Hope that helps
