Review on Redline Tuning Toyota Tacoma 2016+ Hood QuickLIFT PLUS System - All Black Components for Enhanced SEO by Gerardo Goodson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Open sesame on parts

This is my second set of Redline hood stays. I had them on my Mustang and I really liked them. I recently bought a Tacoma and when I saw a different support bar I knew where to go. As others have pointed out, the installation uses rivets. I've never been hot for rivets. They break, they rust, and their holding power always makes me suspicious. However, I assumed that Redline had done its homework and started installing. Overall the installation isn't bad and only takes about an hour if you're careful and measure twice. As soon as I finished, I noticed a few things that caused me to downgrade my rating. First, how far does the hood open? Not sure how it compares to the support bar OEM as the truck is brand new and I'm not used to everything. Anyway, I have a feeling the hood should open a lot wider than it really is. Accept it for what it's worth. That snub nose might be on me, but I checked again afterwards, but the struts don't have a consistent angle. You can see it in the picture. It's a little OCD, but I don't understand why that was done. My third complaint stems from the rivets. One of the bottom brackets tightens up pretty well at the hood lift limit. I don't see that as a problem if you're careful not to raise the hood higher than it should be, but think about what people do when they come to an open hood. One arm goes to the front edge and they lean forward. If the rivets break, I weld the brackets or put a bolt through them. Does the kit work? Yes. Do I think it will last? Not really, although I could be wrong. As far as I know, this is the only kit for Tacoma 3rd gen, so here's what I have.

Pros
  • Great overall specs
Cons
  • Doubt
