This is a great one cup brewery. I received this when my relatives came to stay in our guest room. He drinks regularly; She drinks without caffeine. This one-cup, on-demand brew machine made them both happy. When they left town, I moved them to the front building. After a decade of manual pourover, wakpot, and polished morning immersion brewing, I really appreciate the convenience of an automatic brewer. The quality in the cup is pretty good. I usually have several types of coffee on hand. This brewer shows them all pretty well. If you're getting super nerdy and want to rinse the filter beforehand, you can do that, but I don't find it necessary to remove filter flavors or preheat the cup. With that in mind, I'd like to address some of the most common complaints I've encountered before purchasing this machine. Firstly, the coffee prepared with this machine is at the ideal drinking temperature. If using a standard Technivorm cup, it will be slightly hot immediately after brewing. But it reaches the ideal drinking temperature range within minutes. If you're using a large, heavy mug, you can preheat the mug before brewing. Another solution to this problem would be to use a thermally insulated glass jar. If you are using this machine to microwave your coffee, it is due to user error. Second, there is absolutely no reason why the cone should overflow because the outlet is clogged. Bend the seams on the filter so that the filter fits snugly against the cone. Then be careful when filling the filter with grist. Bob is your uncle. If you don't rinse the filter after each brew, you're only contributing to the buildup of oil in your coffee. Take care of this coffee maker and it will take care of you. Third, I find it quite easy to lift the lid of the coffee maker with one hand. The plastic is squeeze molded. Find a crescent shaped negative space and grab the raised tongue. The lid is light and balanced enough that most people can hold it with one hand, as shown in the photo. As a boring home barista, this brewery is just perfect for my needs. Best of all, my wife and mother-in-law are equally comfortable with it. It's super analog and pretty simple. But it makes a great cup of tea. For best results, grind with a non-vortex grinder if needed and use Third Wave water. If you are weighing your beans, a 20 gram dose is ideal.
