Review on Rightline Gear 100B90 Cargo Saddlebag by Victor Kakaruk

Revainrating 5 out of 5

One of my new favorite Revain purchases!

We used it on our 1200 mile drive from Texas to South Carolina and it's a great find! Be sure to listen to anyone recommending a PVC frame. I'm so glad we did. It definitely helped balance the weight of stuff, and the bag didn't budge in my car even when we hit bumps. I was a little nervous and worried that the bag might fall off the car (having read some previous reviews) but my mum was in the car behind me and she said she didn't move at all and was easy with the car drove on. I don't have a roof rack but I bought autoclips from the same company (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008YS3V88/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and they worked great. I also bought a protective mat (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GDBGDWV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to put between the bag and the car and I had no problems. with scratches. I'm a little confused by the instructions regarding the bottom straps and still not sure if I put them on correctly but I think the main goal was to keep the bag stable on the car and not get bumped, ie somehow worked. It could also be that the bag was so heavy that it really wouldn't move. For the PVC frame I had trouble measuring the parts and could have done a bit more but it still came out fine. I didn't want to use a wooden base and sand the edges, so we cut out a piece of cardboard to the right size and then taped it in place. This worked great for a stable floor. I didn't weigh the bag but I think we may have exceeded the £100 recommendation. I'm not recommending you do this - I'm just saying it. We also put the bag in the car first and then charged it, which seemed a lot easier. I filled the bag to the brim with several bags of vacuum clothing (medium and smaller bags, not extra large). We also had a couple of large zippered bags with towels and linens (like this: https://www.amazon.com/Ziploc-70162-Flexible-Totes-Jumbo/dp/B003UEMD1M/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid =1539893571&sr=1-2&keywords=ziploc%2Btote.) We had other random linens wrapped in transfer film and at the last minute we added our robot vacuum and charging station. I had a small lock so I used it to connect the two metal pieces of the outer zipper. I suppose someone could hack this if they really wanted to, but I have a feeling it would be loud and not fast. We stayed 2 nights in motels en route and had no security issues. Of course we also visited relatively small towns for our overnight stays. We were in Florida a day and a half before Michael arrived and we drove in heavy rain throughout our trip. In the last hour of our drive I had to slow down and turn on the emergency lights even though the wipers were on full because visibility was very poor. Despite this downpour, when I opened the bag everything was dry, I didn't find any water in the bag. Again, I think the frame helped because the bag kept its rectangular shape, the zip flap was able to stay in place, and kept water out of the bag. When we unloaded the bag we even had a puddle of water that I had to scoop out. Fits snugly, especially when you stash things like we do. I suppose with a sharp enough blade someone could slice through the outside to get at your plates, but it won't be quick work. In terms of gas mileage, there seemed to be no cuts. I also checked the straps at every stop, but the only ones I ever had to adjust were the bottom ones (and that's probably because I didn't put them on properly. I think if I can find a couple of flimsy ratcheted straps I might use them next time I also like the idea of having another ratchet strap under the bag - maybe with a few more clips I don't know if it was really necessary but it would be more for my peace of mind As others have written I have had no problem using the bag at high speed Yes I have driven around Texas at some high speeds and never had a problem This is compared to other options including trailers and hitches or roof bags and racks it was definitely worth the investment.I could easily see myself using it again. It's not something I install and for a quick trip would use - but oh definitely a longer one that didn't require reaching into the trunk and lugging lots of things. As I was stuck in traffic on the Louisiana Interstate, I noticed someone taking a picture of my bag. He wanted to get a tag so he knew what to get. Then he stopped next to me and I told him he could buy it from Revain. bag you should get. If you want it to look as nice as mine and be as sturdy then make sure you get yourself a PVC frame and something to use as the base/decking - either wood as people have suggested or Cardboard wrapped in duct tape like I did. (For everyone else, sorry no photos. After our long drive and the long time we spent packing and unpacking - not only our two SUVs, but also the 26ft trailer, I just didn't have those time, patience), or the energy to take pictures.)

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
