I teach in a middle school and bought this in the middle of last year because another electric sharpener burned out. Despite the fact that each class sharpened 3-4 pencils an hour, he did a good job. I don't let the students touch it because I find there are a few things I'm careful about. First, big pencils don't work. Second, while crayons work, I'm concerned that over time the wax will stick to the grinder and reduce its effectiveness. Third, after sharpening pencils with glitter and plastic coatings, I clean the sharpener to keep the fibrous debris from clogging the sharpener. I find very little use for the level of sharpness. I keep it at maximum sharpness and take the pencil out earlier when I don't want it to be as sharp. When this switch moves a little, it annoys me when my pen doesn't get sharp because it slipped off. I would prefer without a switch. Also, be very careful when removing the plastic tray to empty the chips. The clips are plastic and break easily. I haven't broken it yet, but I'm worried about it. Eventually the sound has a high-pitched screech, but the pencil sharpens so quickly that it only catches the students' attention for a moment, and then they resume their work because it is not permanent. Other sharpeners annoy everyone because the constant noise is more annoying than a fast screeching. And the squeak is no louder than other electric sharpeners I've used. Only other electric sharpener was better than this one. It was a Panasonic with a pencil sharpener indicator light, but it's ancient and can't be bought anywhere. It belongs to my colleague. That way if my stationery sharpener breaks in the near future I would immediately buy a second one, it's so convenient and easy to use!
