You get what you pay for.

This small scale is an indispensable tool in the kitchen for weighing ingredients for cooking. It does not need to be accurate or have any useful function other than weighing small items or quantities in containers. It's made of plastic, so you can't put hot pots from the stove or containers that have been in the oven on it. I'm sure it will melt. The top is plastic, not metal, and scratches easily and collects fingerprints immediately after removing the protective plastic cover. You can leave it on if you like blue. On the plus side, it's light, thin, and looks attractive. It's small enough to fit in a desk drawer or upright on the side of a cabinet. It can even serve as a flower stand or a decorative item in your kitchen. However it doesn't work for several reasons that I want to send it back. First, the display is built into the top, so it's covered by any plates or large containers you'd place on top. Even if you look under the subject, you cannot read the display accurately. This 9 inch foam sheet you see in the first and second pictures weighs 6 grams, not 8. Zeros, twos, threes, fives, sixes and nines look like eights when angled. This is also an issue when the display isn't dimmed but you're trying to view it from an angle. Contrary to what others have said, I could NOT get the display to stay on for more than 2 minutes. I don't know how they managed this or if there is another version of this scale but the display turns off after 2 minutes if the weight doesn't change. Second, these scales are not very accurate, especially on the ground. The container you see in the third picture weighs 2g and contains 14g of rice that I poured. The scale registered this as 2 grams. They show a decimal accuracy of 1/100th of an ounce or 1 gram. I couldn't get them to read 1g at all. Also, the weight can vary by plus or minus a few grams or fractions of an ounce. Some other scales in this price range can weigh items up to 1/100th of a gram and were sensitive enough to weigh items up to 1 gram. I wish it could do it. The scale displays "Err" when trying to weigh items over 33 pounds. That's fine because 33 pounds is a lot for a small weight and I wasn't expecting it to be able to handle more than 10 or 15 pounds. Finally, the buttons are responsive, but you can't "feel" them or hear their beep. That would be a nice feature. You have to press and hold the power button for a few seconds to turn it off, or you can just let it turn off after 2 minutes. The lettering on the buttons is white and difficult to read on a silver background. Why didn't they use higher contrast colors like black, blue or red? I have a large "office" scale for weighing packages and letters, but I wanted a small "kitchen" scale that would be accurate for small items and liquids. This scale doesn't work. You get what you pay for so I'll look for better scales that will probably cost more. Anyone have any recommendations? I assume those involved in smuggling know the VERY accurate scales you should buy. ;-)
