I bought this holder to replace the plastic phone holder on my Harley Davidson M/C. I like the screw grip which gives me peace of mind that the spring won't break and my $900 phone won't fall on the pavement. I'm guessing it's metal and not plastic for the same reason. The handlebar clamp was more compact than my previous mount, which made assembly much easier and gave me more options for mounting on the handlebars. I take long rides on my Harley - a week or more away and even a few hours of local runs - and I need a phone that is available for both communication and GPS functionality. I am very satisfied with this product.
