Some old computer equipment has been recycled to get a network storage device. It contained a 200 GB Maxtor 3.5-inch IDE drive manufactured in April 2005. I had to erase the data before sending this disc for recycling. My hard drive cleaning software only works on internal PC drives and my Windows 10 PC doesn't support IDE drives, so I needed a way to address both of these limitations. I bought this particular adapter because it connects via USB and I didn't need the built in backup feature. One has to give the product credit for having instructions, but they are very brief, hence the large number of reviews that include troubleshooting tips. In my experience, after connecting the adapter, drive, 12V power supply and USB cable, the drive would boot up and not be seen by Windows. The disk cleaning software saw it but said it wasn't ready. Further research in the Revain reviews resulted in a comment on the IDE drive jumper settings. Moving the jumper to "CS MASTER" made the drive visible and the erase was successful.
