Review on Sonax 236941 Ceramic Coating CC36 by Chris Crisler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent user friendly coating that really does last and exceed expectations

I've been using Sonax CC36 Ceramic Coating on customers cars for about 9 months now. In that time I've learned a lot of little tips and tricks to make the application much smoother and easier to work with. Humidity plays a huge factor in application. Like most Ceramic Coatings if it's too humid out when you go to buff it off it'll smear and streak and leave an "oily" film on the surface, which is easily removed by using a fresh side of a microfiber towel but it's an added step that you normally wouldn't require on a less humid day.Secondly, lighting is a key factor when applying on a vehicle. It is extremely easy to miss spots when wiping down after the first and second stage of application. Make sure you have adequate lighting or pull your vehicle outside in the sun to look for missed/high spots and remove any excess. My biggest recommendation is use really good Microfibers 70/30 blend Korean towels have worked the best for me (TheRagCompany.com has some great ones) and be sure to swap out towels once you feel it starting to stick to the surface when buffing off the coating.Lastly, make sure you give the first stage over an hour to cure. I noticed the longer you wait before the second stage (within reason 2 hours or so) the easier the application/buffing is. It's an amazing coating that I even applied on my own personal vehicle (2016 RAM) and my wifes SUV (2016 Mazda CX-5) back in January and it has held up great. If you combine it with Sonax's Polymer Net Shield once every 6 months you will get up to 3 years out of the coating. As a trial I used the Polymer Net Shield on my wife's car after 6 months and didn't do it on my truck to see if there was any difference between the two after normal driving/washing. There was a little difference but mine still sheets water and beads up like it did after the initial application 9 months ago.Overall I'm very pleased with Sonax's CC36, I've used a few other brands of Ceramic Coating's and I will say this is one of the easier and safer coatings you can apply. Some other coatings if you get any high spots on the finish you actually have to wet sand it off, where as with CC36 all you have to do is apply whatever stage/step you're doing again to the surface and rebuff off with a clean microfiber towel and it'll remove the residual off. The depth and color of the vehicle's finish is greatly improved with the coating as well. As with most coatings the prep work is key, take your time, remove as many defects in your paints surface as possible and try to apply it in a closed garage/shop that won't allow dust and debris to get on the surface in between coats. Two thumbs up from me.
