Perfect 'match' for our application but has trouble adjusting footrest

This chair 'matches' a custom backlit drafting table we made for my wife's artwork a few years ago . We "retired" a used work chair that was too short after another chair gave up the ghost due to a gas bottle failure. It's perfect from their point of view, but I wasn't able to get the extendable footrest's "pinching" mechanism to work as intended after it proved difficult to get onto the "bump" on the surface of the to press the main support tube. The locking mechanism is a screw clamp which uses the properties of plastic which is slightly flexible but fairly rigid and I accidentally "opened it all the way" and it got stuck in the open position at the bottom of the tube but couldn't Elevator. and fix the position over the base. I believe it "opened fully" in my attempts to slide it over bumps caused by the rivet holding the gas cylinder in place. Now it's "stuck open" and my hands and so far the tools I've tried can't reclose the clamp so I can lock the foot ring higher on the pipe. When assembling, make sure that the locking ring is wide open. but don't "pinch" it before sliding it directly onto the rivet, even if you have to tap it with a rubber mallet. I tried to "unscrew" the yoke further than he really wanted and it got stuck in the open position. Given the properties of the materials, if I want to take things apart and release the adjustments before putting them back on the mid-tube, I know I can probably "fix" them. Since my wife is happy with this (5'10") I'm leaving it on the lower end of the adjustment range for now. You can easily move the wheel left and right on the tube, and if it were higher for a small chair user, I would like to lock it, which is currently not the case.

Pros
  • Nice workmanship
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
