Review on Humminbird HELIX 5 CHIRP DI (Down Imaging) GPS G2 NAV Fish Finder 410220-1NAV by Juan Axum

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Design flaws, not even IPx3, let alone IPx7

Poor waterproofing around the keys. The design of the buttons allows water to enter and pool around the power button until it fails when the power button sticks. Also 2 blocks failed. They usually last around 6-8 months before failing. On the plus side, Humminbird's warranty service was a fairly straight forward process and the new unit was shipped quickly. The new unit only lasted 6 months before it broke down the same way, by which time the warranty had expired. How long your block lasts depends on how wet it gets. My scenario is about 2 applications per week. The unit never gets wet but my boat does get some mist so I use a hose with a showerhead 3-5 feet away to wash it off. So with this stress and the penetration of water on the device 6-8 months. If the block never gets wet it will likely last a long time unless you keep the water in salt water because if water can get in, salt air can get in. The block is fairly easy to disassemble and can be dried. . It seems to work after you've done this and cleaned the power contacts, but experience has shown that it only lasts 6 months before needing to do it again and obviously continued water intrusion over the long term will result in permanent failure in the near future. .If it works, it works well enough. A bit long to block the GPS signal but not a deal breaker.
