I bought this after measuring my dog's neck and I think if I went down a size I wouldn't have any problems. I still ordered his size but his measurements were below that size so there was a lot of collar left after fastening. It would be nice if the small piece that was supposed to be holding the extra collar slipped off, leaving a large piece of the collar dangling at all times. I love that it's curly - it goes great with curly hair and doesn't pull or tangle at all. I also liked that it's thin and light. I would have guessed that the smaller size would have given me less slack in the extra collar once it was buttoned up, but that was the only annoying thing about constantly fixing it.
