Review on Efficient Installation and Removal of Camshaft Bearings with Performance Tool W89220 Universal Tool by Joseph Mathis

Don't be afraid to fit your own bearings

Everyone is so afraid to fit their own cam bearings. I decided to try it myself, I trust myself more than the guy at the auto shop. These bearings need to move in a certain direction or your cam will not fit properly. And most blocks from different manufacturers have different installation methods. So I decided to do it and I'm very glad I did. Dug in here and there due to the slight learning curve. But the diamond file adorned them. Make sure you use it correctly with the correct size bearing installer tool or you will break the cast expander assembly. Got an extra set of tires. It's basically the same as any other more expensive installer EXCEPT the expander assembly is cast iron and not steel. Mine broke, as did many of the other people in the comments, but I was still able to complete the installation by simply fitting the pieces together in a rubber sleeve. Be careful when you do this because if it doesn't expand around the bearings it will hit them 😅. And just to be clear, I used the wrong size and didn't expand right at the start. And I'm sure most of the other people who broke their tool abused it too. In any case, just find a new expander assembly. There's a steel tool at Revain for about $25, and all of those tools are the same, so it's pretty much universal to any similar tool from other brands. So after I ordered an additional expander assembly, I got $125. I recommend simply ordering an additional expander assembly with this kit from the start.
