The main problem I had with this radio was the inability to lock onto the weather station. It's kind of the whole point. This is a manual tuning knob and it can be extremely difficult to find a station even with the antenna fully extended. The sound quality on the radio is terrible. I wasn't expecting it to be great and wasn't overly concerned as I intended to use it primarily for weather/emergencies, but even for that it's pretty bad. I decided to keep it as a backup for another radio I bought. In addition, the lighting is quite good and can be useful in the event of a power outage, as well as being an extra battery for other more useful devices. The "reading lamp" is actually very bright. Probably too bright to use in close proximity/read only, but I would expect it to illuminate places like a tent or small room very well. If that's all you can afford I suppose it will work, but I'd recommend spending a few bucks more and getting something with digital tuning if you really plan on using the radio feature.
