I just got this thing. and it works well when reprofiling a slightly blunt edge. He doesn't take a dull blade and sharpen it to perfection. However, if you use this consistently and don't overstress your knife, you should be able to use your knives well for a long time before traditional (i.e. stone) re-sharpening is required. After using it on about 6 knives, I see very small scratches on the carbide, which I think is unavoidable, otherwise the carbide surface is mirror smooth. hard to do. I have found that if I rock the cover back and forth it will be easier for me to remove it. Also, it has a pen clip on the lid, which I find useless. I really don't think I'll be carrying it in my shirt pocket. It's useful, but not that I'll have to pull it out any moment! The lanyard opening is great, but you don't need a pen clip.
