Review on 🐠 Sera Flore Active CO2 Reactor 1000 – Ideal for Aquariums Over 160 Gallons by Kristen Gray

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Wobbly CO2 connector, broken off. Please read the update!

I was very happy with this product, mainly because it was effective at adding CO2 to my planted aquarium and I stopped having all those bubbles all over the tank. But luck didn't last long, I woke up this morning (4/9/17) in a puddle of water in my living room, the notch connecting the CO2 hose to the reactor came loose and he started draining the tank. Luckily I caught him in time before he emptied the tank, killed my fish and damaged the hardwood floors. My guess is that the connector didn't withstand the CO2 pressure or was already damaged when I received the item, but I doubt it. Pros: - High efficiency, it released a good amount of CO2 throughout the recording time. (It's a 180 gallon tank so I couldn't count the bps but the CO2 started leaking at 11am and the dropchecker was light green 2 hours later when the photoperiod started) - the diameter of the houses matched perfect with the hoses on the Fluval 406 canister filter.- Very slight decrease in water flow, I still felt a strong water leak at the outlet. Cons: - Wobbly CO2 connector, part of the hose fitting broke off. - A bit noisy, especially towards the end of the photoperiod when the water was saturated with CO2. (I calculated around 35ppm using the degassing method). - Expensive, but if it lasted, it was worth it. Upgraded to 3 stars on 5/1/21. Out of necessity I bought another a few months later, this one had a better connector, lasted a little over 3 years, the CO2 connector broke but it started with a small/tiny leak so I had plenty of time to replace it. I hope this review helps you, thank you and please forgive my english.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
