Manage expectations

Virtually none of the reviews give you an idea of the picture quality. I hope this review fills that gap. Spoiler alert: the thrush and bald eagle were shot with Nikon and are shown here for contrast. Good news: decent binoculars. The quality isn't as good as Leupold's, but acceptable. If your eyes are close together, you may have trouble seeing through both eyepieces. Due to the camera in the middle, they can only be closed to a limited extent. The small screen can be misleading. Color saturation (on screen) was poor, and images were severely off-center or cropped. However, when the map was transferred to a computer, I found the color and position to be much better than expected. The small size of the microSD card was very difficult for my old fingers. Overall the binoculars are better made than I expected, but I'm not sure if they will stand up to prolonged use. (My Leopold Mesa binoculars, waterproof and compact, used almost every day for 10 years, often in adverse conditions. I don't think this product will live up to that standard.) The first picture shows the product in terms of: 1) Nikon D530 with Tasco 150-600 zoom lens. My usual birding gear. Massive, difficult to carry. 2) A set of Leupold Mesa binoculars are about the same size as this item which I use for casual birding. In general, the pictures are disappointing. Figures 2 and 3 (Tree and Horse) show objects about 300 feet away. A little grainy but maybe acceptable. The Tiger Lily is about 15 feet from us. Very disappointing. The binoculars are very clear, but the camera failed to combine focus. (I've tried many shots from this distance with the same results.) Robin was about 50 feet from me. The cropped image is quite grainy but sufficient for identification. The bird at the top of the tree was about 40 feet away. The cropped image offers little information. Nikon's blue bird was at the same distance and shows the contrast. The red tailed hawk was about 300 feet from us. Cropping is not an option here. A bald eagle shot at about 300 feet with a Nikon shows the difference in detail. Conclusion. They're only good for everyday use, but don't expect stunning shots.
