Put this at the top of the stairs so my young grandchildren don't get cornered. Works perfectly. I installed it with different screws than the ones that came with it when I drilled and tapped the iron railing, but that option was listed in the attachment so no worries. I've had it for over 6 months now and it works like a champ. What I like is that the gate is easy to remove and the fasteners stay in place. - The locking mechanism requires a bit of lifting and locking. There are springs on the hinges to help lift, so you don't have to turn the hinges every time you open or close them. The locking knot is adjustable so if you use it at more or less than 90 degrees (like me) you can still get a good lock. - The finish seems to be holding up well. What would be better. - I bought this particular model to add visual appeal to my existing railings. Because of this, it's almost an exact match in height. Hinge/lock assemblies have a locking tab at the top to allow you to disassemble them (to remove and remove gates, remove fasteners, etc.), but the locking tab is sharp and protrudes past the knot. It won't cut you, but if you grab it while climbing stairs, it'll stab you in the palm pretty well. Perhaps a better way could be found to lock the lid in place. However, if you mount on a wooden railing or on a wall like in the picture, you will have no problems. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase. I had to add an extension (10 inches) to cover my hole and it doesn't seem to cause any problems.
