Review on Delta Faucet RP24096 Stem Assembly by Matthew Sutton

They should last a lifetime - no! Took 6 years.

After about 6 years in our brand new home (moving in date 02/14/2014) we were getting reports from our water supply that we were having a slow leak. After several months of investigating, I found that the Delta faucet in our master bathroom was slowly leaking - a drip every 75 seconds. Yes our nanny water company has installed new digital water meters which seem to be able to track water usage at such meager levels. if I'm wrong, I'd love to hear from you). In the kit you can see the underside of the original Delta valves which appear to be corroded and covered in sand. Also included are pictures of bluish-green, corroded rubber valve seats (no, rubber doesn't corrode, but the corrosion of the valve itself has eaten into the rubber valve seat) and evidence of chronic scratches likely caused by overt corrosion. on the valve cartridge itself. I first ordered a Delta OEM valve cartridge for $15 (later returned) Delta OEM replacement ($15.91) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001D0L7H6/. However, I later found 2 packs of Delta equivalents (slight difference in 2 globe valve vs. OEM crescent valve but no functional impact) for about $6 plus $3.50 shipping) Delta Faucet Stem RP24096 2 Pack (5, $99 + $3.50 shipping) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/ B00XIM0J5I/ After replacing both valve cartridges the slow drip was still there so I ordered a set of valve seats and springs. Kissler Saddles & Springs ($0.85) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B483CV6/ I was a little unsure about the fit and finish so I also ordered a 10 pack from another manufacturer. Faucet valves and an attempt at replacing valve seats and springs. I think the Kissler seats were slightly better quality than wholesale plumbers (otherwise equivalent), but the Kissler springs were 2-3mm longer. The wholesale installer springs matched the OEM Delta originals exactly, so I used one of the wholesale installer kits. I think I could use Kissler valve seats with original Delta springs, but I didn't think about it until after the rebuild was complete. I called the plumber a hundred times. I'm not sure I could do this repair by removing the corrosion on the original Delta OEM valve cartridges and replacing the valve seats and springs (original springs were fine), but I'm happy with what I was able to do. It is not known why I could not post any pictures with this review.
