I bought this camera because of the very good built in zoom lens. Have used other cameras and was disappointed with their zoom capabilities. This one has a much wider angle than most at maximum zoom (the default when it's on) so it's great indoors when you want to include as many people in your photo as possible. It's also great for wide-angle shots of subjects in nature. I recently took it to the Grand Canyon and the photos from that trip are stunning. Zooming in gets the subject MUCH closer and makes many photos that would look silly on other cameras look great on the L330. At maximum zoom, the camera must be aimed at a solid object such as a tree, car, pole, etc. If you try to shoot hands-free at full zoom, you'll be disappointed as the camera shakes and blurs the image. When I try to zoom in or out a bit, I have a hard time because the electronic controls tend to overdo it. A pan knob would be better than a hold lever, but that's probably a feature of a more expensive camera. The only thing that really bothers me about this camera is the slow autofocus. It's almost impossible to capture a motion picture because no matter when you press the shutter button, the camera waits until you miss the action and then takes the picture. Often he just gives up and takes a blurry picture, which is even more frustrating. Yes, I know I can focus it ahead of time by pressing the shutter button halfway and holding it there, and then snapping the picture at the right time by pressing the button all the way down. I do that all the time. But there are often shots that you just can't prepare for. If I could lock focus at infinity and turn off autofocus, I wouldn't miss any of these shots. Again, this is perhaps a feature of a more expensive camera. Even in low light, this camera does a good job. I directly compared this camera to other brands and was impressed. Again, you have to be prepared to set the camera on something solid as the shutter will stay open for a very long time in low light. The image will be blurry if the camera is not attached properly. So overall I'm pretty impressed with the camera. I give 4 stars.
