My Hunter 3 speed fan was only running at medium speed. I was ready to buy a new fan ($200) but after reading my Handyman magazine there was an article in it that it was most likely a capacitor in the switch housing. Of course, I found that the capacitor exploded. I needed a 4 wire 5+5uF block but couldn't find one. I saw this one and decided the extra wire (red) was something I would just tie (and keep as a spare if needed in the future). I used the other 4 wires that matched the color of my original device. I had my 16 year old daughter do the wiring (under my supervision). And viola! Now your fan works like new! Glad I read the article and found out how to save $195!
