These mills are very handy and easy to use. Just fill them up and insert 6 AAA batteries (each). To use them, simply flip them over. You have a rotary control with which you can set the degree of grinding to coarse or fine. When you flip them over, they automatically turn on and the lights come on so you can see what's coming out and how fast. I am very comfortable. They work very well. These are now my daily salt and pepper shakers. Note that very coarse salt will not work as it has a "feed slot" into the grinder. Your salt shouldn't be much larger than your pepper to work with it properly.
