These are great winter pants and you can tell the designers did a great job! The trousers have a wide cut so that base layers can also be worn underneath. There are Velcro straps at the waist that tighten the belt a bit. My 4 year old wears pants from size 4T to 5T and size xxs fits him well but is not too big. The leg cuffs are reinforced to prevent the pants from ripping if they are a bit longer and the pants have a Columbia Outgrown feature, which allows you to increase leg length as your child grows. If my little one doesn't have a major growth spurt, I can well imagine him wearing these pants again next season. He skied, formed snow angels and sleds in the snow and stayed completely dry and warm. The only thing I miss is the velcro that fits snugly around the ankle, but they fit well on big snow or ski boots.
