A good electric fan is best for parts

I bought this fan to replace the factory clutch driven fan in my 1982 Toyota Supra. When I was working on the car I cracked the radiator shroud and my clutch driven fan was no longer able to pull enough air through the radiator to cool it. I bought this unit with a mechanical thermostat and it worked perfectly. It's not a high performance setup, but it worked great for my application. This kept my car cool on the hottest days (around 100*F). The installation method is relatively simple: you insert plastic screws into the fins of the heatsink and then screw in a plastic nut on the other side. Again, this isn't a very powerful setup, but it works great for me. If you are looking for a good replacement/alternative to a mechanical fan and you know it is sufficient to keep your engine cool I would definitely recommend it. Be sure to buy a thermostat to control it. Also, make sure you have space in the fuse box so you don't have to wire the thermostat directly to the battery. I had to go this route because my '82 Toyota didn't have spare fuses. The thermostat started it up and turned it on for about 10 minutes after the car was turned off on a hot day.

Pros
  • Engine cooling and air conditioning
Cons
  • Don't really like it, everything is fine
