Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Fixed Lens - Discontinued by Manufacturer by Amphai Nanthaklang ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect purchase for me, exactly what I was looking for!

I bought it 2 days after the camera itself, I do not regret it at all. Kit put in a box and did not get it anymore :) After some time, I also took a Sigma AF 50-150mm F2.8 II, but also for street portraits, when it is possible to change the lens, and indoors I still use a "clean" fifty kopeck piece (also because of the size). Focal <=50mm is taboo for me due to distortion, so for me it is a complete replacement for a KIT lens. I agree with the previous positive reviews, except for the "narrow scope".

Pros
  • Low price, high aperture and sharpness. Excellent workmanship. Despite the shortcomings, the lens is definitely worth the money.
Cons
  • Not USM, inconvenient manual / auto focus switch, not very convenient focus ring. At aperture 1.8, there is significant chromatic aberration in backlit situations and around bright objects.
