I would like to reiterate what was said before about verifying compatibility with your hardware and using test features before putting your life in the hands of this device. The DSC function didn't work with my standard Horizon GX-1700 (despite it being listed as compatible on their website). The device was purchased in 2015. I'm still awaiting a response from Standard Horizon as to whether a firmware update will fix the problem (which I have to pay for and send back to the factory). I then bought a new standard Horizon HX870 handset and luckily it works, but it's less convenient to leave it on and charged than relying on the built in radio. Everything worked fine from the AIS side. But I have a brand new chartplotter - if you have something older beware. Another point: check the PFD model to make sure it's compatible with the trigger. It is not possible for me to fully wrap the reinforcement tape around the inflatable bladder, which is the best way to install a MOB. Instead, I have to use a trick (provided by RescueMe) that uses tape to attach the tape to the back of the bladder. I'm not sure how well this would work if actually deployed. Make sure all users of your PFD are aware of the MOB and how to activate it manually (and of course how to track the MOB with AIS and DSC radios).
